I purposely do not buy games with strong women of color main characters, especially indie games. If the heroine checks all the PC boxes it means there was something about the gameplay or plot that made them think "we'd better get the woke crowd too"
Don’t know much about indie games but there are legitimately cool “strong women of color” characters in games, ie. Overwatch or Borderlands 3. I know you aren’t trying to say it’s impossible, but it’s still worth acknowledging. I think the greater point is it shouldn’t be forced or artificial, and it definitely doesn’t need to be.
Except Overwatch women are achieving women. Mei is a polar scientist. Symetra is a solid light engineer. Zarya is a bodyguard strong enough to handle a robot laserbeam canon. Sombra is a wizard-class hacker. They are not couch blobs of fat whining that society must change to accept them as they are while taking another gulp of soy milk, they handle themselves.
Their skin color and/or gender say they are victims? No they are not. They don't fit the narrative. That in my humble opinion is diversity done right, not wokeism, and good on the Overwatch team for achieving that.
For that matter, every character is an achieving character. And merit is antithetic to the woke ideology. What you achieve is secondary, what you are is who you are.
The only truly woke point the OW team went after was "Soldier76 is now gay". However picking the dreaded "old white male" to push woke points sounds all kinds of ironic to me. It's as if they meant to go after the double-standard and make heads spin, but that's just speculation on my end agreeing with my bias.
I forgot about the Soldier76 thing, that was indeed a woke move. You hit the nail on the head with your point about merit. It’s antithetic to left ideology and the core of conservative beliefs. I think 20 years from now there is going to be a massive difference between children raised by conservatives and ones raised by lefties. Conservative kids will be the achievers, lefty kids will be looking for their participation ribbon for the rest of their lives.
Yeah but like I said, I can point that it's the old white male who's gay and see heads spin. The coincidence is just too perfect not to use it!
I agree with you to an extent regarding conservative vs. liberal kids. The education system is getting more and more weaponized to indoctrinate kids. We are the end of a 20-year demoralization plan set forth by communist activists, time needed to indoctrinate a generation through the education system. I fear kids raised by conservatives just rebel out and go full commie.
I happen to have a friend who subscribes wholesale to feminism and the woke talking points of the other groups. She just finished uni. Trump is a racist and wholly responsible for COVID, and BLM is right, no question asked.
The 20-year plan already happened and is still happening.
But those characters are also a dog whistle for the worst type of Tumblrista fans, that you'll have to deal with those people and it ruins the experience anyway. I used to spend a lot more than I do now. Just like movies, I just don't like most of them these days
