I have a laptop from 2009 and no wifi at home. So I'm obviously limited in what i can play. I have been playing a great indie game called Project Zomboid which is a very challenging zombie survival game. It's extremely optimizable which allows me to play it, and doesn't require an internet connection to play single player.
It has split screen play, guns don't make you invincible and actually require you to level up your skills to be useful. The game is still in Early Access and has been in development for a long time, but it is in a very polished state at the momment.
Some key notes about the game:
There are Vehicles and they can be worked on by replacing parts which requires tools and basic knowledge to work on (you have to find magazines while you explore)
The map is insanely massive, and while you can choose 4 starting areas, with a vehicle you can travel between those areas.
There is some deep crafting elements, but it takes a good amount of in game time to really have to take advantage of most of those crafting elements.
The game is very challenging which in my opinion is a breath of fresh air in a world where AAA gaming companies have made it a staple to make a game as easy as possible so more people play it.
4 player co-op through multiplayer, however the newest beta build doesn't allow it, and the new 3D models and items in build 41 are just to good to not play that build.
