Wizards can publish all the woke garbage they want, that’s not going to stop my table from describing orcs as savage bloodthirsty monsters who revel in violence or from describing drow as purely evil creations of Lolth.
I love D&D and I’ll never stop playing it with friends, but WotC will never get another penny from me.
People on Twitter were saying that making races evil was lazy storytelling anyway. But are the drow just going to stop worshipping Lolth and the seldarine or what?
Viconia in Baldur's Gate was an evil drow, but she was still a fleshed out and interesting character.
People who say that are misunderstanding the ‘planet of hats’ criticism.
It’s not lazy to say ‘this race is evil’. The skaven come to mind from warhammer fantasy. 100% evil. They will never take responsibility for failure. They will always backstab others the second it becomes in their best intrest. They’re built AROUND being evil, there have complex clan structures and internal politics, them being evil is the basis from which everything else happens.
It’d only be lazy if they had no lore or backstory or personality. Kinda like zombies if there’s no background commentary on them.
The irony of seeing racism where there is none, is engendering racism where there is none.
Old news, but still just as silly.
These are not "races" as we discuss them today, they are different species in the scientific sense. Even so, the SJW crowd can't stop projecting their racist beliefs about black people onto orcs, so they have to change orcs before someone gets in trouble.
