First ones to really expose the media bias when they all published the "Gamers are Dead" articles, all on the same day, a handful of years ago.

All we wanted was to play games in peace.

I still remember how lambasted our movement was at the time. I was actually exposed to it by all of the "muh hate group" articles, and it sounded horrible, so I looked further into it so I could tell people to watch out for it.
Then I found it it was literally just a bunch of nerds who didn't want their hobby to be molested by politics. That's my opinion also, so i joined the movement.
For the sake of a more complete picture, there were a number of forerunner events preceding GamerGate. Most notably, back in 2012 there was the big backlash to EA/Bioware's Mass Effect 3, which was an unfinished game at launch and broke explicit promises made by the lead developer. That was the first time the "gamers are entitled" crap showed up en masse, in a repeating pattern through all the big-name publications.
Before that there were other incidents too, most notably Gamespot firing Jeff Gerstmann for giving Kane and Lynch 2 (which were running heavy ads on their site) a bad review score.
That was the eye opener for me. There was a charity set up as an attempt to be nice and be heard. A big push on their forums and then the statement that it was art and that we were entitled shits. I’ve never seen a company or person representing a company make such a horrible comment towards the very people that buy their games. (At the time)
The Dragon Age team had an apology sent out about DA2, but the team at ME? Oh no no listen her you entitled shits, that games ending was a master piece of modern art. Go back to your moms basements and shut the hell up and buy our games.

Same group, after the fund raising for Child's Play was decried as "weaponizing charity" and "exploiting children". The Child's Play owners (Penny Arcade) scolded us and said "Don't do that again." But they took the money, of course.

Damn those gamers for sending us cupcakes and donating to charity’s to bring attention to grievances they have with a beloved gaming series!
And you guys continued the fight admirably. Now we have at least a chance to push this bullshit back with US/UK/AU conservative gov'ts though sticking to your principles and not using the underhanded tactics used against us can be hard.
