The internet moves quickly. A week is enough time for a meme to pop up, spawn sub-memes that spawn their own sub-memes, and die, leaving you to wonder wtf everyone is even talking about.
I had a similar thing happen a few years back, when I only took a break of a couple of days off the internet and came back to tons of threads being deleted about a game dev cheating on her bf with five guys.
There's a non-insignificant number of Subs on the list that Reddit would as soon not have around: /bodyinflation, /yiff, /FemaleDatingStrategy...
As a side note, /Conservative locked down, but /Politics didn't. /Music is one of the only Default subs to, but they're like the French, and Strike at any opportunity.
Politics was sold to Shareblue years ago. They won't lock down because they agree with the actions.
Remember, to them, moderators (if they have rightthink), harassment subs like AHS, admins, journalists -- they're all better than you and deserve special rights.
So if I'm getting this straight, some British political figure-turned-admin gets dox'd over rumors of her father being a pedophile, and Reddit is shutting it down.
Soooooooooo... What did this have anything to do with KIA again?
I've gotten a fuller explanation with actual KiA-related reasons up now. The other post linked covers the broader drama, but does not get into the nitty gritty of why this impacts us.
I just got online and am sorting out a post here to explain things a bit. Should have a post here up in the next hour or so.
Edit: Explanation is up: https://kotakuinaction.win/p/12i3lD1GQ3/kia-on-reddit-is-temporarily-pri/
I go off the grid for a week... and come back to all this?!
