It was shitty writing that killed it. What made the first game great was the interactions and relationship between Joel and Ellie. They threw that out and made Joel into an idiot who forgot he doesn’t trust anyone and Ellie into an almost unlikable person completely. I’m not even gonna get into the new protagonist and ending. Just a shitshow all the way around story-wise really.
Joel in One retconned many things to get people to try to like Abby. It didn't work. She-Hulk is a horribly written hypocrisy. In a story that ends up being "revenge bad" she manages to get her revenge and get away scott free.
Now that we have our free speech back, let's start helping make sure the angry mob wins against metacritic's 503 "error" fuckery, if you haven't already left a review, do eet.
There are valid criticism of it. There are some good things regarding the game. The writing is just shit. They wrote the characters differently. The whole thing is a mess in general.
It doesn't matter if it is "woke" or whatever. I personally don't care. Like all pandering it's bad.
Game Pros continuously sucked Druckmann's dick over how amazing the game was, giving it the usual swarm of AAA 10/10 ratings despite it having some appreciable flaws: in pacing; in the repetitive, predictable gameplay loop; and most importantly the sophomoric handling of the narrative.
The Journos' propensity towards like-minded opinions coupled with their fear of being blacklisted by Sony for not giving Naughty Dog the knob-slobbering it demands means you can't trust the lot of them as far as you can throw them.
The Angry Mob may be slinging out reactionary 0s and 1s, but it's not like the more in-depth user reviews are too much better, and what they're saying is completely fair: yes, the game is graphically and technically amazing, but that doesn't make up for a needlessly bleak plot that tears apart so much of what people loved about the first game while repeatedly beating the grade school level meta-message of "Durr, killing is bad, m'kay!" over the player's head, like a half-assed 'Spec Ops: The Line'.
Graphics are quite nice on the Pro but everything else is shit I didn't even care about Abby but the model is so weird looking it gives off this creepy uncanny valley vibe and it's disturbing to look at.
Gaming media scores there's little dispute over them shilling with scores even they don't think the game deserves.
User scores is mostly mixture of a lot angry mob and shills both of which giving scores even they don't think the game deserves, good idea to rule out all 10s and 0s.
Best indicator for a real score is looking at the like to dislike % around a 40% positive which is one very bad chance to like a game you were already interested in enough to buy, would be a better estimate if there was a way to confirm purchases for reviewers but probably wouldn't differ too much
Wait so you haven’t played it? I’ll just tell you right now, the trans’ shit wasn’t even real, and el has been gay since the first one. I guess I would say that if you are genuinely disgusted by gay/les romance then yeah you should probably stay away, but as far as your other complaints which are definitely valid, I would say give it a shot and you might actually find that the story is waayyy better than most make it out to be in reviews or leak content. It’s not as good as the first, but I found it VERY engaging.
I don't even care to try this game anymore. Originally was excited when I first heard about it however many months or years ago it was. But all that interest has been raped and murdered, kind of like Joel.
Full disclosure, I didn't play it, but I read they fast-forwarded the lesbian love scene (fade to black etc) but made you sit through the whole gay tranny bussy fuck.
Let me preface this by saying they could’ve made the protagonists of this game furry bisexual non-cis gendered space turtles and I wouldn’t care. The story sucks and playing this game feels like the video game equivalent of trying to run through waist deep mud. The mechanics are uninspiring and don’t really do anything to push the genre forward in any compelling way. The graphics are great but that’s not really going to do much for me.
Anyone have an honest opinion for someone who hasn’t played TLOU and wouldn’t have emotional investment in the story? I haven’t read up too much on the plot other than the 4chan leaks, but am thinking about getting the PS5 and the idea of exploring post apocalyptic Seattle has only gotten more appealing with CHAZ, is it worth??
From watching my husband play TLOU 1; there isn't much actual exploring going on. You go from point to point along a linear path. Sure you can find another way, but it's only a couple of rooms difference and you need to go through all of them anyway to find resources.
It depends. If you play games for gameplay and graphics. It might be worth picking up. However, the story and characters are bad and there is quite a lot of SJW stuff in it. I would personally pick it up on sale if you do choose to buy it.

Who could have seen this coming.

Hey! Don't insult She Hulk like that! She-Hulk is actually attractive and looks like a woman, unlike Albert. I mean "Abby"
Technically competent, but crappy writing and pacing. Like an LS-1 in a Trabant.

Spec Ops: the line was so good. The great writing came out of nowhere. Thought it was a generic shooter when I bought it hahaha
SUCH AN UNDERRATED GAME!

Everything related to the writing/story/characters was bad.
Is it a 0? No, but it's not good.
ND are dead to me but so many staff members bailed over TLOU2 that a new company is on the cards and i will support it in every which way.

So, why the double standard?
It's technically good I guess, but the writing, bleeeh.
It's an interactive movie therefore the story matters.
