So for those of us still on Reddit be aware that you can't link Win sites there... doing so results in reddit pulling it and once they've pulled it we can't approve it.

How this works is shown in this reply

So if you want to direct people here you have to type it out, without the Https://

At this point Kotakuinaction.win being typed out doesn't cause the automod to remove it, though this too may change.

They are worried.

Either worried or sick of it being spammed somewhere... or both.

Reinholt 9 points ago +9 / -0

I suspect worried; you can link to all kinds of other things and there's plenty of spam on reddit.

Taking away views and having a free speech alternative, however, kills their potential to "curate" the image and kills their advertising revenue if eyeballs leave.

I see why they don't want to promote a competitor but on the other hand, if they hadn't been a bunch of duplicitous cocksucking pigfuckers, they wouldn't have created their own competition from enraged users.

The last bit there reminds me of something I can't say on reddit now...

If your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.

So yeah, if they weren't being worthless shits they wouldn't be in the spot they are in, and we wouldn't be forced into building a lifeboat.

This is precisely my point. So first, thanks for building it; that was 100% the right move as it was obvious the walls were closing in.

You can understand, from a brand perspective, Reddit closing out porn subs and even FPH, but The_Donald was actually a canary in the coal mine for us because it said "we don't want to be associated with people who dissent from the SJW orthodoxy".

That's a very different stance than "We can't have Unilever products showing up next to porn".

Second, it's sort of the core point of how this gets solved in the end and the ultimate goal for GG: if people hate you and kick you instead of taking your money, go somewhere that wants your money and engagement. The Win network is actually a sign GG is gaining ground, not losing it.

Oh to be honest I can fully understand them closing a fair few subs, CTH being the current best example.

The place may have started as something else but as such communities sometimes develop they become a utter shitstain who, instead of laughing at drama/stupid, become hunting it and causing it if they can't find any. They roll in with an alt and make a shitty comment or post and then jump on their main and link it claiming it's what we all think.

AHS is another example who's, just today, used a post I made on KiA as a linking point claiming that we are all about harassing women. They did this because Bane made a joke about how writing into the rules that attacking the majority is ok and Bane pointed out that women in the US slightly outnumber men.

And the fact that both communities do the same shit, well it's just a fine example of the hypocrisy of reddit.

They banned the one so they can point to it and claim they are stopping troubles using the rules, but they are going to go to hell and back to ignore the other.

It's gotten to the point where there's more or less no point in submitting brigading, we've had massive brigades before and sent of reports including links, archives, and lists of dozens of people we had to ban... and usually we don't hear anything back at all.

Humm... sorry I think I've gone off subject here.

So before I ramble more

This is precisely my point. So first, thanks for building it; that was 100% the right move as it was obvious the walls were closing in.

The mods thank you for that and we're glad to have you here.

They fear the Reddit competitor grower.

5
GilaMonsterous 5 points ago +5 / -0

They're panicking. They never thought that someone would take that 'if you don't like it, built your own' trite crap seriously. Now they have a competitor that's taking huge bites out of their user base, and they're trying to suppress info on it.

Hmm... As communities.win is a Reddit-like message board, could this be seen as an anti-competitive move?

17
HandofBane 17 points ago +17 / -0

Possibly. When it was just thedonald being blocked, they could claim it was to prevent ban evasion. The issue here is that we have never been banned or quarantined, and our .win name does not even mention TD. Even my original lifeboat announcement only mentioned them as communities.win, my only naming of TD in any form was where I mentioned they had been banned alongside Chapo.

I think it's likely a combination of anti-competition and socjus "We don't link out to nazi websites" garbage.

1
Shadist [S] 1 point ago +2 / -1

Could be... although for a large part as most of the communities that have been built are now banned they could always say that it's simply an advanced form of ban evasion prevention.

Could very well be

BrokenMatrix 7 points ago +7 / -0

Typing "thedonald dot win" will also get your stuff removed. My guess is that Kotakuinaction just isn't on their list yet. There are other sites that end in .win, so they probably don't want to ban them all.

If you want to spread the word, your best bet is giving a link to an image with the name of the site.

2
Shadist [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah I'm well aware of the Donald being on that list, I think the post I linked is actually about someone posting the Donald.

endersshadow 4 points ago +4 / -0

Probably an image is the safest way

3
Shadist [S] 3 points ago +4 / -1

Could be.

It'll be a bridge we have to cross if they force the issue.

pseudosapient 1 point ago +1 / -0

For now, but yes.

RedChanIt 1 point ago +1 / -0

One of many things that makes me glad I was just a lurker and never registered for the site.

Shadist [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Heh, no thanks.

Kotukuinaction.win phonetically would take more typing than I like.
